The Young Person Employability Partnership

The Young Person Employability Partnership is an initiative developed by pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim. Designed to deliver long-term improvements across healthcare, communities and the environment, it aims to support vulnerable communities and empower young people through self-awareness and self-confidence, highlighting career options within UK Life Sciences.

The initiative is a collaboration with Health Innovation Manchester, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, CoDevelop Consulting and Boehringer Ingelheim with attendance from Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham. Students from across our nine Greater Manchester Colleges benefit from skills sharing events to support their continued development.

Research in Greater Manchester has highlighted that many young people find themselves confused and discouraged when choosing their options at age 14. One in four Year 10 students say they do not feel in control over their future education, training and opportunities. This is higher among female students, young people with special educational needs and disadvantaged young people.

This highlights the need to provide future generations with accessible support and enriching opportunities to inspire confidence and enhance the essential skills for success.

The programme. Now in its third year, offers students insights into an industry, showcases different pathways and develops employability skills. The collaboration includes Health Innovation Manchester, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Boehringer Ingelheim.
